Your life has meaning because it began in the heart of your Creator.
Key Scriptures: Jer. 1:5; Eph. 2:10; Rom. 8:28–30; 1 Pet. 4:10–11; Eph. 4:11–16
One Question Every Person Must Answer
Sooner or later, every thoughtful person asks:
"Why am I here?"
Is life simply about being born...
Getting an education...
Finding a job...
Raising a family...
Growing old...
And then dying?
Or is there a greater purpose?
The Bible gives a clear and wonderful answer.
You are not an accident.
You are not the product of chance.
You are not here merely to make a living.
You were created by God, for God, and for God's eternal purpose.
Your life has meaning because it began in the heart of your Creator.
God Created You Intentionally
The Bible opens with these majestic words:
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." (Genesis 1:1, NKJV)
The God who created the universe also created you.
David marvelled:
"I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made..." (Psalm 139:14)
The Hebrew word translated "wonderfully made" (pālāʾ) speaks of something extraordinary, remarkable, and beyond human comprehension.
Your personality.
Your abilities.
Your experiences.
Your opportunities.
Even the circumstances through which God has brought you have not escaped His sovereign knowledge.
God knows you completely because He designed you intentionally.
God Created You in His Image
Genesis 1:26–27 declares:
"Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness..."
Every human being possesses dignity because every person bears the image of God.
This means you were created:
- To know God.
- To love God.
- To reflect God's character.
- To represent God's rule.
- To bring glory to His name.
Sin distorted that image.
Jesus Christ came to restore it.
Therefore, your highest purpose is not merely to accomplish great things.
It is first to become like Christ, the perfect image of God.
That is why Christlikeness is the first pillar of this series.
You Were Created for Good Works
Many people spend years searching for God's will while overlooking one of the clearest statements in Scripture.
Paul writes:
"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2:10)
The Greek word translated "workmanship" is ποίημα (poiēma), from which we derive the English word poem.
It describes something skillfully crafted by a master.
You are God's masterpiece.
Not because of your achievements. But because of His grace.
Notice also that God prepared good works beforehand.
Long before you were born, God had already planned a life of faithful service for you.
Calling is not an afterthought. It is part of God's eternal design.
God's Purpose Is Bigger Than Personal Success
Modern culture often defines success by:
- Wealth.
- Influence.
- Popularity.
- Achievement.
- Recognition.
The Bible measures success differently.
God's first question is not:
"How famous did you become?"
But:
"Were you faithful to My purpose?"
Jesus lived only about thirty-three years.
His public ministry lasted about three years.
By worldly standards, His influence appeared small.
Yet He perfectly fulfilled the Father's will.
True success is not becoming greater than others.
It is faithfully accomplishing what God created you to do.
God Gives Every Believer Spiritual Gifts
God never calls His children without equipping them.
Peter writes:
"As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God." (1 Peter 4:10)
Notice two important truths.
First, each one has received a gift.
Every believer. Without exception.
Second, gifts are given to serve others, not to exalt ourselves.
Spiritual gifts are expressions of God's grace entrusted to us for building His Church and advancing His kingdom.
In the coming blogs we shall explore these gifts in greater detail.
Your Calling Is Part of God's Global Mission
Sometimes Christians think calling refers only to pastors or missionaries. The New Testament presents a much broader picture. God calls people to serve Him:
- In the family.
- In the local church.
- In education.
- In business.
- In medicine.
- In agriculture.
- In government.
- In science.
- In skilled trades.
- In missions.
- In countless other spheres of life.
Whatever your vocation, God desires that you represent Christ and contribute to His Great Commission.
Calling is never merely about career. It is about participating in God's eternal purpose.
God Shapes Us Through Every Experience
Many people wonder why God allows certain experiences into their lives.
Some experiences bring joy. Others bring disappointment.
Some involve success. Others involve suffering.
Romans 8:28 reminds us:
"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."
Verse 29 explains that this "good" ultimately means being conformed to the image of Christ.
God wastes nothing.
He uses education.
Work.
Family.
Friendships.
Failures.
Trials.
Victories.
Even painful experiences become tools in His hands to prepare us for the work He has designed for us.
Discovering God's Purpose
How then do we discover why God created us?
The answer begins not by looking within ourselves but by looking to Christ.
As we grow in Christlikeness...
Study God's Word...
Pray...
Serve faithfully...
Develop our spiritual gifts...
Seek wise counsel...
Walk in obedience...
God gradually reveals His direction.
His guidance usually comes step by step rather than all at once.
Faithfulness today prepares us for greater responsibility tomorrow.
Your Life Matters More Than You Realize
Never believe the lie that your life is insignificant.
The teacher shaping children.
The nurse caring for patients.
The farmer feeding communities.
The entrepreneur creating employment.
The parent discipling children.
The retiree mentoring younger believers.
The student influencing classmates.
The pastor shepherding God's people.
Each has a unique place in God's kingdom.
The question is not whether your life matters.
The question is whether you are offering your life completely to the One who gave it.
A Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for creating me with purpose.
Thank You that I am not an accident but Your workmanship.
Help me become more like Jesus every day.
Reveal the gifts You have entrusted to me.
Guide me into the work You prepared for me before I was born.
May every part of my life bring glory to Your name and contribute to the fulfilment of Your Great Commission.
Through Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.
Your Next Step
Prayerfully reflect on these questions:
- Do I believe that God created me intentionally and for a purpose?
- Am I pursuing success according to the world's standards or God's standards?
- How has God used my life experiences to prepare me for serving Him?
- What opportunities has He already placed before me that I should embrace with faithfulness?
You were not created merely to exist.
You were created to know Christ...
To become like Christ...
To serve Christ...
And to make Christ known.
When you discover and faithfully fulfil God's purpose for your life, you become part of something far greater than yourself.
You become part of God's eternal plan to redeem the nations and glorify His Son.
For there is no greater privilege than living the life your Creator designed for you before the foundation of the world.
